Robinho, sentenced to nine years in prison for rape, now accuses the Italian justice system of being "racist"

Former Brazilian player Robinho, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for participating in the gang rape of a young Albanian woman in a Milan nightclub in 2013, now points the finger at the Italian justice system for considering that he was convicted for "being black." The Superior Court of Justice of Brazil must decide this Wednesday whether he confirms the prison sentence imposed on him.

The former Real Madrid footballer was prosecuted on January 19, 2022, however, he has not gone to prison because he resides in Brazil and the Brazilian Constitution prohibits the extradition of citizens of the South American country. Even so, he can enter a Brazilian prison, which is why the Brazilian Superior Court of Justice will decide this Wednesday whether to confirm Robinho's nine-year prison sentence.

In an interview with TV Record, Robinho declared that he is "innocent" and accused the Italian justice system of being racist: "If my trial were for a white person, it would be totally different, without a doubt. I hope that in Brazil I can have the voice that I didn't have outside."

Despite the guilty verdict, Robinho points to the country where he played as a Milan player: "I played four years in Italy and I got tired of seeing stories of racism. Unfortunately, it happens today. That happened in 2013 and today we are in 2024, which makes me It leads one to believe that the same people who do nothing against racism are the same ones who condemned me at my trial.”

The former footballer, who committed the rape in 2013, when he played for AC Milan, has assured that "the relationships were consensual" and that the victim "took four months to report." Likewise, he has called his case "unfair", since "I respect everyone, even women."

The Brazilian, in a statement on his social networks, has declared that he has sufficient evidence to prove his innocence despite the fact that his guilt was proven at trial.
