Papu Gómez, suspended for two years for doping

'Papu' Gómez has been sanctioned by the anti-doping authorities with a two-year disqualification after having tested positive in a test in 2022, when he was a Sevilla player. According to Relevo, the Argentine, who has played for Monza since leaving Sevilla, will have to interrupt his career by order of sports justice.

Months ago, UEFA notified both the player and Sevilla that he had obtained an adverse result after an analysis, but it was not until this week that he received the sanction. This conviction could mean the end of the career of Gómez, who is now 35 years old.

The player's version explains the positive result by his children ingesting a syrup without prior consultation with the Sevilla doctors after a bad night. The substance could be a medication from the B2-adrenergic family, similar to salbutamol.

After learning this news, Sevilla decided to terminate his contract and Gómez signed with Italian club Monza until June. During this time Papu Gómez lifted the World Cup with Argentina in the World Cup in Qatar and the Europa League with Sevilla.
