From Real Madrid to Arandina: the arrests of players for sexual crimes in Spanish football

The Civil Guard has arrested four players from the Real Madrid youth academy for revealing sexual secrets. They are investigating the complaint of the mother of a minor that she had been recorded in a sexual practice and that the video had subsequently been disseminated without her consent. Unfortunately, a case that is not isolated in the world of football.

In 2021, the footballers Sergi Enrich (Eibar) and Antonio Luna (Girona) were sentenced to two years in prison for the dissemination of a video that they recorded while having sexual relations with a girl, while their then former Eibar teammate Eddy Silvestre (Albacete) was acquitted in the same trial.

The events date back to May 2016, when the three players belonged to Eibar. The young woman reported to the Basque police that she had been recorded against her will while she had sexual relations with Enrich and Luna in a video that quickly went viral on social networks. In the images you can see how the woman asks them to stop recording when she realizes that everything is being captured by a camera: "Stop. Not that anymore." Although the players promised the victim that they would delete the tape, they did not do so and its contents circulated quickly.

More serious are other cases such as that of Santi Mina. The Almería Court sentenced the Celta de Vigo footballer to four years in prison for sexually abusing a woman in June 2017 in Mojácar (Almería). He also imposed a restraining order of 500 meters from the victim for 12 years and the payment of compensation of 50,000 euros.

The sentence states that on June 16, 2017, the forward, who was then a member of Valencia, entered his van, parked near the Mandala nightclub in Mojácar with which he was traveling with three friends. After a few hours of partying at the aforementioned nightclub, one of Mina's friends, Goldar, was having sexual relations with the victim. Mina entered the van and addressed the girl. “I like you a lot and I think we should do something,” she told him. The story describes how Mina “would have inserted the penis into the complainant's mouth. The victim pushed him and the soccer player pushed her back, inserting three fingers of his right hand into her vagina. Seconds later, the striker apologized and the victim left in a great state of anxiety.”

In 2020, three Arandina players were convicted of gang raping a 15-year-old girl. Initially, the Burgos Court punished them with 38 years in prison in total, but the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León, after accepting the defense's appeal, acquitted one of those involved and reduced it to four and three years. the sorrows of the other two.

The case of former Barça player Dani Alves is another of the most famous. Accused of an alleged sexual assault on a young woman on December 30 in a nightclub in Barcelona, he has remained in preventive detention since January 20 at the Brians 2 penitentiary center.

The case against the Brazilian player is currently pending resolution of an appeal in the Third Section of the Court. Once this procedure has been completed, as a summary that it is, the necessary procedural journey will begin in the coming months in section 21 of the Barcelona Court. Once completed, section 21 of the Barcelona Court will set a trial date.
