Djokovic regains number one and Nadal, out of the top-100 after 20 years

Novak Djokovic took the world number one from Carlos Alcaraz after winning his 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open, while Rafa Nadal dropped out of the Top 100 for the first time in 20 years.

Djokovic, 36, began his record-breaking 388th week at the top on Monday, moving up two places in the rankings after his victory in Paris at the weekend, which also allowed him to reach the men's major tournament record. He beat Spaniard Alcaraz in the Roland Garros semifinals. Alcaraz dropped to second place, while Daniil Medvedev, who lost in the first round, also dropped one place to third. Casper Ruud, runner-up at Roland Garros, remained in fourth position.

Nadal, a 14-time French Open champion, has endured an injury-plagued season and has not played since January due to a hip injury suffered during the Australian Open. The 37-year-old has fallen from 15th to 136th in the rankings due to his continued absence from the tour. He underwent surgery at the beginning of the month and is expected to be out for five months.

In the women's ranking, Iga Swiatek retains first place after defending her title at the French Open. Iga Swiatek has been in first place since April 2022, after the retirement of Ash Barty. Aryna Sabalenka, winner of the Australian Open in January, had a chance to overcome Swiatek, but she lost to Karolina Muchova in the semifinals and remained in second place.

Muchova, a French Open finalist, rose from 43rd to a career-best 16th. Reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, who withdrew before her third-round match in Paris due to illness, moved up one place to third. Jessica Pegula dropped two places to fifth place, while Beatriz Haddad Maia became the first Brazilian to reach the Top 10 after her dream run to the semifinals of the French Open.
