It was an open secret. But the Portuguese international Bernardo Silva, a Manchester City footballer, has renewed his contract with the English team until 2026, definitively closing the door on Xavi's FC Barcelona, a club that he has wanted since last year.
Silva, 29, was ending his contract in June 2025 and had spoken with the Barcelona club on several occasions. However, given the complicated situation of the club, the Portuguese, after winning the 'treble' last season, has decided to follow Pep Guardiola's orders and renew his contract for another year.
"I've had an incredible six years at Manchester City and I'm delighted to extend my time here," said Silva, who joined City in 2017 from Benfica. In his time at City, Bernardo has played 308 games and has won five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields and one Champions League, as well as scoring 55 goals.
