Umayyad inaugurates the Iberian lynx birthing season in captivity with two cubs

The female Umayyad has inaugurated this week the birthing season of this 2023 in the captive breeding centers of the Iberian lynx located in the Iberian Peninsula, with a litter of two cubs in that of Zarza de Granadilla, in the province of Cáceres.

The birth, as reported by the "ex situ" conservation program through its social networks, took place last Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.

Omeya, a 6-year-old female, gave birth to two healthy puppies that, since then, she has been taking care of perfectly in her farrowing box.

This is the fourth litter for Omeya, who this year was paired with the male Hocico.

Between the four Iberian breeding centers (El Acebuche, La Olivilla, Silves and Zarza de Granadilla) and the Zoobotánico de Jérez, 28 pairs have been paired whose births will take place between the months of March and April.

Last year the "ex situ" Lynx program closed the breeding season adding 43 Iberian lynx cubs (20 males and 23 females) after pairing 28 breeding females, of which 21 gestated 55 cubs.
