Temperatures will rise across the board this weekend in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands with values between 5ºC and 10ºC above normal, which will even reach 15ºC more than usual in the north of the country, in a new warm episode that will take place from this Sunday and until Tuesday, as the spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Rubén del Campo, has advanced to Europa Press, who does not rule out that it is the fourth heat wave of this summer in Spain.
Thus, these days temperatures will exceed 35ºC in much of Spain and the Balearic Islands, and tropical nights of more than 20ºC will also affect many areas of the country, although inland areas of the central and southern peninsula and the Mediterranean will have torrid nights of more than 25ºC so, according to the spokesman, there will be three days with "very high" highs and lows for this time of year.
As for the maximum temperatures, they will be 40ºC in the valleys of the Ebro, Tagus, Guadiana, Guadalquivir and other areas in a timely manner, and, despite the fact that in the Mediterranean the values will not be so high, the sensation of embarrassment will be "intense". due to high relative humidity.
In this way, the heat is expected to begin to be intense this Thursday and Friday in the northern and eastern thirds of the peninsula, and it will spread to most of the country during the weekend due to the arrival of a "very warm" together with the high pressures over Spain, which could also arrive laden with suspended dust, which would worsen air quality.
For all these reasons, the Aemet does not rule out that this warm episode is the fourth heat wave of this summer, while warning of the "extreme" risk of fires given the low rainfall, high temperatures and environmental dryness.
Regarding rainfall, the spokesman explained that it will be low due to the anticyclonic conditions, which will promote dry and sunny weather, although the entry of a front that will affect western Galicia has advanced and that could bring "persistent" rains which would arrive "weaker" to other points of the Bay of Biscay, in addition to some isolated storm in mountain areas.
In more detail, this Thursday high temperatures will predominate in points of the eastern, central and southern peninsula as well as in the Balearic Islands, with points such as Zaragoza or Toledo where 38ºC will be reached, so the day will be fully summer, although there will be some storms throughout the afternoon in mountain points of the peninsular east.
Temperatures will continue to rise this Friday in the Mediterranean and Cantabrian areas, especially in the latter where they will register between 6ºC and 8ºC more than the previous day. For example, cities like Bilbao, Logroño, Pamplona, Córdoba, Granada or Murcia, among others, will be around 38ºC and even reach 40ºC in Zaragoza.
However, the arrival of a front in Galicia on Friday will leave "abundant" cloudiness and "persistent" rainfall in the west of the community, rains that could accumulate in some areas more than 40 liters per square meter in just 12 hours.
On the other hand, temperatures will rise generally throughout the country, so slightly cloudy skies are expected despite the fact that on Saturday it will continue to rain in Galicia and to a lesser extent in Asturias, as well as some storms in the Pyrenees in the afternoon.
Thermometers will register between 5ºC and 10ºC more than normal for the season in the northern, eastern and southern thirds of the peninsula as well as the Balearic Islands with a maximum of more than 35ºC on Saturday, and 40ºC in points of the Guadalquivir, the interior of the Murcia region and in some areas of southern Andalusia and the Ebro Valley.
Again, the thermal rise will continue on Sunday, when it will exceed 35ºC in large areas of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and around 40ºC in the Ebro Valley, Guadiana and Guadalquivir, in some points of the Tagus and in other areas of Andalusia. .
Thus, temperatures will be between 10ºC and 15ºC more than normal for this time in the north, and between 5ºC and 10ºC more in most of the country. To this situation we must add the presence of tropical nights with lows of more than 20ºC in numerous areas of the eastern, central and southern peninsula and the Balearic Islands, while torrid nights of more than 25ºC will predominate in coastal cities of the Mediterranean and the south of the peninsula.
Temperatures will continue to rise on Monday, while on Tuesday they will stabilize with the exception of the Cantabrian Sea where they will continue to rise. Therefore, the spokesperson has warned that these will be "very hot" days with daytime values between 5ºC and 10ºC above normal throughout the country and between 10ºC and 15ºC more in various areas of the Northern Third.
In addition, 35ºC will be exceeded in a general way, except in coastal and mountain areas, and the values will oscillate between 38ºC and 40ºC in low areas of the northeast, center and south of the peninsula.
The nights will also be very hot, with lows of 20ºC in a large part of the country, while they will not drop below 25ºC in the Mediterranean and some towns in the eastern and southern interior of the peninsula.
The drop in temperatures will begin next Wednesday, which will be accompanied by an increase in instability with storms whose extent is yet to be determined, according to the spokesman.
On the other hand, in the Canary Islands temperatures will also rise throughout the end of the week, in addition to the arrival of suspended dust in "moderate" winds that will blow from the northeast in coastal areas and from the east in elevated areas.
In general, in the archipelago the skies will be slightly cloudy with some intervals of clouds and the maximum could exceed 34ºC in areas of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and mid-range areas of the rest of the islands, temperatures that will continue to rise during the beginning of next week.
