Today we are going to show in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos five birds that will not leave you indifferent if you see them walking among the landscape of the Urgell region, such as in the surroundings of the town of Altet.
Although it feeds on easily caught prey, such as small animals, the tendency of the red kite, a bird of prey with extraordinarily agile flight, is increasingly scavenging.
It usually nests in trees and lays one to three eggs. In incubation, the male usually replaces the female while she feeds.
Also known as the common buzzard, buzzard or eagle, the buzzard feeds mainly on small mammals. This medium-sized, robust-looking bird of prey makes long glides in flight.
In general it is not threatened and the number of specimens increases, after overcoming strong persecution suffered until the 20th century.
As with most birds of prey, female golden eagles are larger than males. They even measure one meter in length from beak to tail, as well as 2.3 meters in wing span (the male stays between 1.8 and 2 meters).
The plumage of this eagle is dark brown, but, as its name suggests, it turns golden on the head and neck, while it is white on the shoulders and at the end of the tail.
In addition, this species is included in the so-called booted eagles, since the legs are covered in plumage, as if they were shoes.
These eagles are monogamous, so they usually pair for life. They build several nests, based on three thick branches, in various parts of their territory. They alternate them every year. as if they had several residences.
The short-toed eagle (Circaetus gallicus) feeds mainly on snakes, which represent 80% of its diet. He swallows them starting with the head.
This bird of prey, which enjoys a good state of conservation, has a characteristic thick, rounded head, which some say reminds it of the eagle owl.
The short-toed eagle measures about 63-69 cm and has a wingspan of 185-195 cm. The male weighs between 1,100 and 2,000 grams and the female between 1,300 and 2,700 grams.
The lower part of the body is white, the upper part is brown and the tips of the wings are black. He has large eyes, a very bright yellow color.
The bee-eater is one of the most attractive birds, as can be seen in the images. As its name indicates, it is a specialist in capturing bees and also other flying insects.
It is an unmistakable bird, given the multitude of colors it has: blue on the chest, greenish on the belly, cinnamon head, yellow neck and a black stripe that adorns its eye.
They like areas where insects abound. Their very showy colors stand out, like many African birds, and they have nests on the edges of roads. They are deep holes in the ground.
