The Aemet puts on alert to close 2023: there will be heavy rainfall and snowfall in these specific areas

As the year draws to a close, Spain is experiencing a period of significant meteorological transition. The atmospheric stability and high temperatures that have predominated during this month of December will give way to a period of instability.

Thus, official sources, such as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), predict a series of meteorological phenomena that will alter the normality of these last days of 2023 in several regions of the country.

Tuesday, December 26, is presented as a day of climatic contrasts. On the one hand, the day will be marked by anticyclonic weather, which translates into clear skies and stable temperatures in most of the territory. However, this calm will be interrupted by heavy snowfall, with temperatures that could drop to -6ºC in regions such as Aragón, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia and Extremadura.

The situation will change on Wednesday, when an Atlantic front approaches the country, bringing with it more pronounced changes. This front will initially affect the northwest, with intermittent rains in Galicia and strong winds. This phenomenon will extend to Cantabria and northern Castilla y León, while other areas will maintain clear skies and stable temperatures.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the last of 2023, weather conditions will diversify even more. Showers will disappear on Friday, but cloud cover will increase in many areas. The Canary Islands seem to be the exception, maintaining atmospheric stability. The frosts, for their part, will extend to more regions, including the Balearic Islands, and a notable drop in temperatures is expected with copious snowfall in the interior.

However, there is another worrying aspect: air quality. Meteored, through its account on the social network X, warns of the poor air quality in the main Spanish cities. This environmental problem, added to the fog and frost, poses an additional problem for the inhabitants of these areas.
