Spain is on high alert: AEMET updates its prediction on DANA and warns of extreme conditions

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an emergency statement this Saturday, September 2, that has set off all the alarms. The Isolated High Level Depression (DANA) that is forming at the moment points to a particularly hectic weekend in meteorological terms for almost the entire Spanish territory.

The main concern is the amount of rain that is expected: more than 100 liters per square meter, especially in the eastern half and the center of the peninsula. The areas where the greatest impact is expected are the eastern Cantabrian Sea, Alto Ebro, Valencia, Catalonia, eastern Castilla y León and Ibiza. These areas could experience extremely significant precipitation accumulations.

Not only the rain will be the protagonist this weekend. According to AEMET, atmospheric instability will result in a rather autumnal environment, with temperatures that will drop significantly below typical levels for the time of year.

The AEMET statement leaves no room for doubt: difficult times are ahead in climatic terms. The next 48-72 hours will be crucial in determining the actual impact of this DANA, but for now, the general advice is to prepare and stay vigilant.

It should be noted that although the prediction is quite accurate, there is always a degree of uncertainty. According to AEMET, the effects of the system could change if the position of DANA changes in the next hours or days.

Therefore, for those who are already thinking about taking out their umbrellas and wellington boots, the AEMET hopes that the situation will begin to improve as of Monday. Precipitation is expected to decrease and, by Tuesday, the conditions of abundant rain and thermal decrease will end.
