Rain, wind and rising temperatures: this is the Aemet forecast for the beginning of the week

The first Monday of December will be marked by a general rise in temperatures, precipitation due to the passage of a front and high intensity winds in the north of the country, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

A front will sweep the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, leaving cloudy or overcast skies in its wake, with practically widespread rainfall, although generally weak, advancing from west to east, and which will be less likely in the Mediterranean area.

After the passage of this front, clearings will tend to open, leaving cloudy intervals, although in Galicia, the Cantabrian area and the Pyrenees, greater cloudiness with showers and the occasional storm is expected to persist. The showers may also affect other areas of the northern half in a dispersed manner.

According to the agency's forecast, the snow level will be between 900-1200 meters in the Pyrenees with significant accumulations at high levels. In the rest of the north of the peninsula, it will be 1400 meters, dropping to 900-1200 meters in the surrounding area.

Temperatures will tend to increase across the board in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, except in the Pyrenees and Betic systems, where they will decrease. Weak frosts are expected in the mountain systems, more intense, even locally strong in the Pyrenees, continues the Aemet.

Winds will blow from the south and southwest, tending to roll to the west and northwest in most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, which will become strong with very strong gusts in the Cantabrian environment and northern Galicia, also with some strong intervals in Ampurdán. Special warnings have been activated in four communities: Galicia, the Basque Country, Asturias and Cantabria, where winds of up to 70 km/h could be recorded.

Looking ahead to the Constitution and Immaculate Bridge, the entry of new fronts and a stabilization of temperatures is expected. “Fronts associated with Atlantic storms will arrive, with warmer air and also loaded with humidity, so it will rain in large areas of the Peninsula, especially in the west. Temperatures will also rise. In fact, it will be a week with high temperatures for the season,” says the agency's spokesperson, Rubén del Campo.
