UPN will only support Feijóo and prefers an electoral repetition before investing Sánchez

"Compliant with the given word", but not very convinced of its success, the Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN) has communicated to King Felipe VI its intention to support the PP candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in his investiture attempt in the event that the monarch designates him as a candidate.

Its president, Javier Esparza, has endorsed it at a press conference after the meeting held in Zarzuela although, after the result obtained by the popular in the vote last Thursday, he has not hidden his pessimism about the operation, leaning towards a repetition election rather than for the investiture of the socialist leader, Pedro Sánchez.

In a press conference from Congress, after being the first in the monarch's round of consultations to propose a candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Esparza has indicated that UPN should not tell the head of state what to do and will respect the decision he makes. "We continue betting on a Popular Party government but if of course the thing is between a PSOE government with Bildu or new elections, then hopefully we will go to a new electoral cycle", he has outlined.

The UPN leader, in fact, has regretted that an agreement between the PP and PSOE is "a dream". A "beautiful dream but dreaming", he has pointed out before the mistake that he, he understands, is the fact that Pedro Sánchez plans to govern with the independence movement, with "those who want to break Spain".

The Navarrese formation rejects the agreement between Pedro Sánchez and EH Bildu, which "hurts" them because this party included members of ETA on its municipal lists, and also that "Together and a fugitive like Puigdemont could end up saying who is going to be president or if we go to elections".

Despite the support of the UPN deputy, Alberto Catalán Higueras, Feijóo does not have enough support to form a government, because even if the support of the 33 Vox deputies and the Canarian Coalition deputy, the PP, with 137 seats, is confirmed, he would stay four short of the majority.
