"They took the drugs off some boats, but the van overturned and they ran away"

The residents of the urbanization of Cala Aiguafreda de Begur still do not know what will happen next. "The drug traffickers arrived in the morning, around seven in the morning, at the break of dawn, in impressive black boats...". We are in one of the most paradisiacal corners of the Costa Brava. "And then they started unloading the bundles, bundles of drugs, at the jetty we have here...". A very fun and simple jetty, so that in the summer people can jump into the water more easily.

"And they were carrying weapons, super big weapons!" "It's just that there was a lot of fog... you couldn't see very well what was happening." Yes, the fog could also play a decisive role. The snapshots taken by some of the witnesses of the events that took place allow us to observe a dense hailstorm. "It's just that the sea was very rough, the weather was very bad, and the truth is that I don't know if it was a wave or if the driver of the van didn't see a step there... the fact is that the van it overturned and the traffickers ran away". The white vehicle was left there, at the end of the urbanization's jetty, half sunken, and full of dozens of bundles...

As detailed by the Efe agency, citing police sources, up to 76 bundles with approximately 30 kilos of hashish in each were found in the drug van in question. In total, a shipment of around 2,300 kilos of drugs, an amount that could have a value on the black market close to five million euros.

The Mossos d'Esquadra were looking for both those in the boat and those in the van, but at the close of this edition they had not made any arrests. "The fact is that we had already seen it, the van in question - continue the residents of the urbanization of Cala Aiguafreda-. On Saturday it was in front of a restaurant in Llafranc, but we don't know anything about those who brought it. It caught our attention because now there is less movement here." "We had never seen anything like this here, maybe now we are an entry point for drugs?".

The truth is that it is not the first time that drug traffickers have used this modus operandi on the Costa Brava. The growing police pressure on the drug dealers on the coasts of Spain and also in the south of Catalonia is giving rise to traffickers who want to introduce the goods to Europe to find unloading points located more and more towards the north. So, they have already set their sights on the Costa Brava...

In February, agents of the Civil Guard intercepted a shipment of around two tons of hashish in the waters of Tossa de Mar. In this case, the drug was also able to intervene, but the drug traffickers also managed to escape. Both Tossa de Mar cove where this confiscation took place and Aiguafreda cove are beaches that are very protected, and are particularly discreet once the summer season ends.
