The PSPV maintains the objective - which was ratified on Monday by the Secretary of Federal Organization, Santos Cerdán - of calling the extraordinary congress to elect Ximo Puig's replacement "in the first quarter of 2024." This Tuesday, the still general secretary has insisted in the corridors of the regional Parliament in the month of February, given the festivities that take place in March (first, Magdalena; then, Fallas; to end at Easter). And all this, despite the fact that no progress is perceived in the negotiations between the parties to achieve the desired (at least by the leadership of the PSPV and the PSOE) that consensus candidacy.
Everything is up in the air and, in Les Corts, Puig has insisted on his desire for "there to be as much cohesion as possible" and for the party to learn from "the mistakes of the past." Asked about a possible candidacy of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, Puig has avoided commenting.
The message that the still leader of the PSPV reiterates is that his party must have a "vision of how it can be more competitive" electorally in the future. Taking this argument, his followers do opt for the figure of the minister, who has the endorsement of the federal leadership.
However, she still hasn't said anything. Nor does the general secretary of the PSPV in the province of València, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, who is waiting for the minister's movement to make her decision. The only one who has revealed her intentions is her Alicante counterpart, Alejandro Soler, although party sources see it as feasible to convince the Alicante deputy to reach an agreement.
Despite the doubts, the socialists are convinced that the congress can be accelerated, given its extraordinary nature and that there is no need to wait the 10 days established by the statutes to convene a National Committee to set the congress calendar. For this reason, the hope remains that the process can be finalized before the March festivities. "We are on the right path," they insist from those around the former president of the Generalitat, without giving more clues.
Along these lines, they are already working on finding a space to house around 1,000 people. Puig wants the congress to be in Castellón, his province, although for logistical reasons, it is not ruled out that it will be in Valencia.
