The PSC sweeps Catalonia, ERC and Junts tie in seats and Sumar-ECP is the second force

Overwhelming victory of the PSC in Catalonia 15 years later. The candidacy headed by Meritxell Batet obtained 34% of the votes and 19 deputies in the Congress of Deputies. In this way, the Socialists add seven more seats compared to 2019 and increase their votes by 14%.

Another of the headlines of the night is for Sumar-ECP, which manages to position itself as the second political force in Catalonia. Aina Vidal's candidacy obtains 14% of the votes and seven seats, the same as En Comú Podem obtained in 2019.

The two main pro-independence forces, ERC and Junts, are tied for seven seats. The Republicans, however, are ahead of Junts in terms of votes with 13.16%, almost ten points less than in 2019 and losing six seats.

Junts loses one deputy compared to the last elections, when they obtained seven, and drops 2.5% in terms of votes. In addition to losing a seat, Junts would not be able to revalidate the third position in votes either. Míriam Nogueras's party would remain as the fourth political force in Catalonia behind ERC.

The result of the elections leaves, for now, the Popular Party of Nacho Martín Blanco in six seats -he had 2-. With 13.33% of the votes -7.47% in the last generals-, the PP is close to multiplying its votes compared to 2019. For its part, Vox, with 2 seats, would keep the same deputies although it would improve its votes by 1.48%.

Both the CUP, which lost two seats, and the PDECat-Espai Ciu candidacy headed by Roger Montañola, did not obtain representation and were left out of the Congress of Deputies.

The victory of the socialists is indisputable. The PSC surpasses the rest of the forces both in votes and in seats in the four Catalan provinces (Lleida, Tarragona and Barcelona). In total votes, the difference between the PSC and the second force, Sumar-ECP, is 20%, some more than 700,000 ballots.

If in 2019 they totaled 1,652,055 votes, in these general elections the pro-independence forces -ERC, Junts and the CUP- have remained in 951,579 ballots.

The Republicans have lost deputies in all the provinces (3 in Barcelona, and 1 in Girona, Lleida and Tarragona). Míriam Nogueras's party, for its part, tied in seats with the PSC in Girona, where the Socialists outvoted them, but lost a deputy in Barcelona.

In the fight to be the first pro-independence force, the dispute has evened out compared to the last elections, and Junts and ERC tie in seats. However, the party headed by Gabriel Rufián has prevailed over Junts by more than 69,500 votes.

In Barcelona, the PSC obtains the majority of the deputies and wins 13 seats, five more than in 2019. The second force is disputed between Sumar-ECP and PP (which has 3 deputies compared to the last elections), while both ERC and Junts lose one seat.

Junts and the PSC tie for two seats in Girona, while Sumar-ECP and ERC finish, with one each, the distribution of deputies. In votes, the Socialists surpass the party of Míriam Nogueras by some 29,000 votes.

In Lleida, the Socialist Party also prevails both in votes (29.45%) and in seats (2). The most affected party is ERC, which loses one seat and remains the second force.

The PSC -2- obtains one deputy more than the rest in Tarragona, where ERC, Sumar-ECP, the PP and Junts add one seat each.
