The Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors has maintained the request for 3.1 million euros for undue expenses for the organization of the referendum of October 1, 2017 as well as the external action of the Generalitat, represented by Diplocat. The money that must be returned to the public coffers must be assumed, according to the representative of the public prosecutor's office, by the 34 defendants, including former presidents Carles Puigdemont and Artur Mas as well as other senior officials of the Catalan government.
The prosecutor explains that this procedure, after the trial held by the accounting scope, in order for a sentence to be handed down, cannot be suspended by the amnesty because it is "a future event and not exactly uncertain, but neither endowed with complete certainty." , by not knowing the date of entry into force of the law and its exact content and scope".
