The extreme right already reigns in another regional Parliament. Thanks to the support of the PP, the Vox deputy, Marta Fernández, was elected yesterday by an absolute majority president of the Cortes de Aragón, which makes her the second authority in the community. An agreement forged at the last minute that in principle is limited to the composition of the Board, but that can pave the negotiations between the two for the future investiture of the popular Jorge Azcón.
Outside the gates, the PP clung to "the history and tradition" of parliamentarianism in the community to justify its decision. They defend that in the different legislatures it has been "usual" for the third party with the highest number of votes -in this case Vox- to obtain a position in said body, and that a similar situation already occurred in the first legislature of Javier Lambán with Podemos. .
However, many see after the popular transfer of the presidency the price to pay to prevent the entry of the ultra-right in the regional Executive, which Azcón aspires to command alone, despite the insistence of Vox to "make their votes count" and come into power.
"Today's agreement does not prejudge anything or determine any other agreement," said the vice president of Vox, Jorge Buxadé, at the gates of the Aljafería palace. In a national key, Abascal's lieutenant also assured that his party continues with "an outstretched hand" to negotiate in Extremadura "until the last second", something that was extended to other places where arithmetic allows replacing the left. What happened in Aragon "shows that when the PP has the will to negotiate and has common sense, loyalty and good faith, things work," he asserted.
The forge of the pact between the rights experienced bizarre situations at times. Late on Thursday, the popular ranks considered the talks broken and were summoned to resume them the next day. But two hours later, Vox issued a surprise statement announcing an agreement between the two for their deputy Marta Fernández to occupy the presidency of the institution. The statement caught the popular on the wrong foot, who initially did not confirm the news and did not ratify it until late on Friday morning.
With this result from yesterday, the Aragonese panorama thus remains in a situation similar to that experienced in the Balearic Islands, where the PP granted the presidency of the Chamber to those of Santiago Abascal without having closed its support for the investiture of the popular president. The next step will be the constitution between the two of a working group that will have to explore in the coming weeks, with a maximum limit of two months, the possibilities of reaching an agreement for the investiture.
To achieve this government alone, Azcón also negotiates with the PAR (one deputy) and with Teruel Existe (three seats). According to his internal calculations, endorsed by what was seen yesterday in the Cortes, the popular ones have the vote in favor of the first and the very probable abstention of the second, as long as Vox does not have a hole in the Government.
The Board of the Aragonese Cortes was completed with the first vice-presidency of Mar Vaquero (PP) and the second of Elisa Sancho (PSOE).
