The Pirelli calendar bets on color

Pirelli, in addition to tires, has for years been a reference in art for its exclusive calendars. The 50th edition was presented yesterday in London, since the British subsidiary came up with the idea, in 1964, to create almanacs, signed by renowned photographers. And although they have not been published for several years for various reasons, they have become a collector's item. An example: of the 2024 edition, only around 70 will arrive in Spain.

To celebrate this key figure, Pirelli has trusted Prince Gyasi, the youngest photographer and the first African to have been given this commission so far (28). Born in Ghana, he is one of the most prominent visual artists and has made color his identity.

Gyasi has titled the calendar Timeless (timeless) and claims the people who have left a mark and inspire new generations. The protagonists – all black – of the calendar are the actors Angela Bassett and Idris Elba, the writers Margot Lee Shetterly and Amanda Gorman, the model Naomi Campbell (her fifth calendar), the actress, singer and dancer Teyana Taylor, the ex-footballer Marcel Desailly, singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage, musician and producer Jeymes Samuel, artist Amoako Boafo and the king of the historic Aixanti empire in West Africa, Otumfo Osei Tutu. The same photographer also appears.

Yesterday, at the presentation in London, where the photos were taken, in addition to Ghana, Angela Bassett, Amanda Gorman and Jeymes Samuel attended, as well as Prince Gyasi. The photographer emphasized that all the protagonists of the calendar are united by passion: "They never stop. They never give up."

Bassett revealed that she felt very honored to have been proposed as a reference for new generations. And he celebrated that for the second time the calendar was set in Africa. Amanda Gorman (the poet who read at Biden's inauguration), stated that she was shocked when Gyasi called her, "because he is not a model", and acknowledged that Federico García Lorca is one of her references . Finally, the singer Jeymes Samuel (Seal's brother) joked about the fact that he would never have imagined that he would appear in the same calendar that starred his ex-sister-in-law, Heidi Klum, years ago.
