The direction of Podemos in the Balearic Islands leaves its position in the hands of the Citizen Council

The executive of Podemos in the Balearic Islands has announced that it will make all its positions available to the Autonomous Citizen Council so that this body can make a decision on what should be done after the debacle in the regional elections. Podemos has only achieved one deputy in the Balearic Parliament compared to the six it had in the last legislature. He has lost more than half the votes he got four years ago.

The regional coordinator of Podemos, who was also the candidate, Antònia Jover, has announced the call for the Regional Citizen Council to debate the future of the party "and to assume the results of the campaign." "We put ourselves at your disposal," she said. In any case, the eventual resignation will not materialize until after the general elections. Doing it before would be "irresponsible", according to the leader of Podemos.

"We are facing a call for general elections, which we are convinced will be from the unity of the left. It is necessary for the Citizen Council to make the appropriate decisions and excite the citizenship, so that the unity of the left returns to reissue the government of coalition of Spain", has defended.

The candidate has personally assumed responsibility for the electoral results that leave her out of the Balearic Parliament since the only deputy who has achieved the formation has been elected in Menorca. Podemos had 10 deputies in the Balearic Parlamet and, in the 2016 general elections, it obtained almost 120,000 votes and was ahead of the PSOE. In these elections it has not reached 20,000 votes.

"I regret that we have not been able to convey the joy and hope necessary to encourage people to vote. We believe that the proposals we have made are correct, but we have not been able to get them to the public," he said. Jover has defended the management of Podemos in the different institutions and has insisted that without Podemos it will not be possible to reissue the left-wing government. "The only party with the necessary courage to carry out forceful measures against problems such as housing and mobility on our islands and to strengthen public services is Podemos," he said.

In relation to the Sumar Movement, Jover has been convinced that left-wing citizens are waiting for this confluence. "People want to continue with a coalition government, with which an agreement must be reached as soon as possible. We will all take to the streets to push so that we have the best possible results," she said.

Sumar negotiates with Podemos, but simultaneously holds talks with Més per Mallorca, Més per Menorca and Ara Eivissa. These three parties converge to the elections under the brand Ara Balears, but from Sumar they have offered them the possibility of closing a coalition on the islands.

From this formation they assure that they are willing to explore an agreement, but always from the full autonomy of the three parties on the islands, which also ask to choose their own candidate, who could be the current regional senator for the Balearic Islands, Vicenç Vidal. Podemos believes that they should be the ones at the top of the list.
