The Democratic League rejects the amnesty because it is "harmful" to the judiciary

The Democratic League rejects the amnesty because it is "harmful" to the judiciary

The Lliga Democràtica, a party that emerged in Catalonia from the confluence of people from the constitutionalist orbit and moderate nationalism that positioned itself in favor of pardons for those convicted of 1-O, has issued a statement this Friday to express its position before the investiture pact signed by the PSOE and Junts, which proposes the drafting of an amnesty law for those prosecuted for their participation in the independence process.

The party to which the political scientist Astrid Barrio belongs, one of the speakers in the report on a law of clarity on an independence referendum requested by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, and which has been recently presented, rejects "the agreements based in the private interest and denigration of the judiciary", which just yesterday came out against a possible amnesty with a common position of all legal organizations.

In this sense, the Lliga, which participated symbolically in Daniel Sirera's candidacy for mayor of Barcelona with the inclusion of Santi Fisas closing the PP list, reiterates its commitment to exploring consensus from the "moral authority" that His career confers him in favor of the resolution of the Catalan political conflict for the sake of harmony.

From these premises, the formation is forceful, on the one hand, in its "unmitigated condemnation of the use of violence in legitimate political protest, particularly that exercised against parties and individuals", but, at the same time, "rejects political commitments based on the pursuit of personal interest and not for the benefit of the common good.

On the other hand, the Lliga Democràtica opposes the "instrumentalization" of State institutions and the "harmful interpretation" that, from its point of view, the pact signed by socialists and post-convergents casts on the "credibility" of the Spanish judicial system. , since, the document indicates, "the use of the lawfare concept is incompatible with a rule of law such as Spain."

Likewise, the formation, founded in 2019 with the impetus of, among others, Josep Ramon Bosch, a historic PP militant who also presided over the Catalan Civil Society, "deplores" that the future amnesty law is the result of an "arithmetic imperative", this is, of the "strict need" of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of the seven votes of Junts to continue in office, and not of a responsible and serene debate that could have "given rise to a consensual or widely majority position" .

In this scenario, the Democratic League will continue to bet, the statement concludes, "through dialogue, negotiation and the search for consensus in the management of political conflicts within the framework of the Constitution as the best way to provide decisions of the maximum legitimacy, guarantee its duration and viability and refuse any action that polarizes society".
