The brutal sexist murder of the night of Kings in Esplugues comes to trial

If there is any crime that encompasses the greatest and cruelest evil that can exist, it is undoubtedly the one committed by Rubén Darío Cabezas. This man, who was then 27 years old, entered the flat where he still lived with his ex-partner and their 3-year-old daughter and stabbed them to death after discovering that his ex was exchanging messages with another man.

The sexist crime took place on the morning of January 5 to 6, Christmas Eve 2020, in Esplugues de Llobregat. The accused then called the police to confess the facts and turned himself in. That day the grandparents had prepared the gifts and hoped to be able to live a special day with their granddaughter, but they received the hardest blow of their lives, from which they will never be able to recover. Since that January 6, 2020, they have suffered from an irreversible and permanent picture of depression and post-traumatic stress, according to the specialists.

Today begins the trial for the death of Mónica Linde and her daughter, Ciara, murdered on Twelfth Night at the hands of her ex-partner and her father, respectively. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for a permanent, reviewable prison sentence for the accused, Rubén Darío, for two crimes of murder with treachery and cruelty, habitual abuse and a continued crime against privacy. He caught his ex-partner and daughter sleeping and attacked them brandishing a knife and murdered them. He stabbed the woman 52 times in the face and neck. "The accused, in addition to killing Mónica, caused her great suffering as a result of the large number of injuries he caused and the areas of the body where he directed the attack", notes the Prosecutor's Office, which also highlights " the moral suffering" caused by the woman "when she realized the presence of the little daughter and the impossibility of protecting her".

Six months earlier, in August 2019, Mónica had informed her partner of her intention to end the romantic relationship. From then on, the accused continued to live in the home and "began to show attitudes of control and possession" and subjected Mónica to "a dynamic of continuous reproaches, insults, monitoring and watching and even attacks of the type physical and mental, which caused her a situation of deep emotional discomfort and anxiety". During the trial, several co-workers of the victim will testify as witnesses, who will tell the court about the problems Mónica had with her ex-partner.
