Participation rises in the Galicia elections: it is already more than 6 points higher than in 2020

An upward turn in the attendance trend in the Galicia elections, which are being held this Sunday. According to the second preview, published at 5 p.m. through the Xunta's official website, participation is 49.17% of the census. They are 6.2 points more four years ago, in the last elections to the Galician parliament, at the same time.

In this way, during election day a change of current. And in the first preview, published at 12 noon, participation was 2.3 points lower than in the 2020 elections.

All in all, more than a million Galicians have already voted in the elections to the Galician parliament. In fact, with three hours left until the polls close, more people have already voted than in the entire day four years ago, marked by some restrictions due to the pandemic. Among those who have already voted are the different candidates to preside over the Xunta.

The province that presents the greatest increase in participation compared to 2020 is Lugo with 7.86 more points, followed by Ourense (7.50), while Pontevedra and A Coruña register practically the same increase: 5.74 and 5.73, respectively. Ourense is the only one that has already exceeded 50.19% participation this Sunday of elections in Galicia.

Such a high turnout was unheard of in a second advance in attendance at the polls since the 2009 elections. It was then when the PP recovered the absolute majority thanks to the party's now state leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

The day was held without incident, the most notable being the alleged attack on a representative of Sumar by another representative of the PP in Vigo. On the other hand, as election day coincides with the end of the carnival in some parts of the territory, some voters from Xinzo de Limia have gone to the polls in disguise.
