Congress of Deputies, Assembly of Madrid, Parliament of Catalonia, City Council of Málaga... Israel's war has crept into a good part of the institutions of the State through the respective pronouncements of the forces of the left and right A fact that, by extension, has contributed to raising the level of tension in Spanish politics.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo released a reproach minutes before meeting with Pedro Sánchez in the Lower Chamber for the "not forceful" attitude that, according to the PP, the central government has taken when condemning the hostilities that began on Saturday .
The leader of the PP was "dismayed" by the position of some integrated forces in Sumar, whom he accused of being "compassionate" with the "terrorist activity" of Hamas, a fact for which he demanded from the central president that all the members of the Executive, especially the second vice-president, Yolanda Díaz, condemned as soon as possible "this terrorist act" perpetrated on Israeli soil.
The lack of force criticized by Feijóo did not take long to be refuted by the acting Minister of the Interior. "From the first moment, Hamas' attacks on Israel were condemned in an express manner" (...) "It seems that some sectors do not want to hear us. We obviously hope that the escalation of violence stops, so that there are no more civilian deaths", concluded Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
This resoluteness, however, was not unanimous within the central government. After listening to the socialist side describe what happened as an act of "terrorism" on the part of Sumar's spokesman, he criticized "the double standard" towards the Palestinians with one word: "Hypocrisy".
In the same way, but in the Assembly of Madrid, the positions of the left and the right showed the existing differences between the blocs, which lead to the impossibility of agreeing on an institutional declaration. Vox demanded the celebration of a minute of silence in solidarity with the Israeli people. And the spokeswoman for Més Madrid, Mónica García, requested to reflect in the declaration a mention "to all the victims" including the Palestinians of the Hebrew bombings. The dispute resulted in a standoff between the PP and Vox, and the spokeswoman for the far-right party called it "disgusting" that the "scum of the left" in Spain "justifies" the kidnapping of children or the "murder in cold blood".
In Catalonia, on the other hand, there was a condemnation of the Government of the Generalitat as well as parties such as ERC, Junts and PSC. However, the Junts parliamentary group registered a motion that will be debated in two weeks and that could raise dust in the Catalan Chamber, where post-convergents and republicans have already clashed other times in relation to this matter.
Málaga City Council joined the fray. The mayor, Francisco de la Torre (PP), decreed the illumination of the Consistory with the colors of Israel, a fact that provoked complaints from the councilors of Amb Málaga, who demanded the inclusion of the Palestinian flag.
