Interior reinforces anti-terrorist prevention measures during Holy Week

The Ministry of the Interior has decided to reinforce anti-terrorist prevention measures during Holy Week, as there are a large number of movements and crowds of people related to this celebration these days.

As reported by the Interior, the measures are included in the Anti-Terrorism Prevention, Protection and Response Plan, which remains activated at level 4 out of 5 possible. The device is applied throughout the national territory from this past Friday until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.

This matter was analyzed by the Terrorist Threat Assessment Board in its meeting prior to this holiday week. After this meeting, the Interior ordered a particularly intense reinforcement during Holy Week of the anti-terrorist measures planned for the current level 4 out of 5 anti-terrorist alert.

The objective is to prevent risks derived from celebrations and population movements and concentrations of citizens. These are actions aimed at the surveillance and protection of places, spaces and means of transport, religious, leisure or recreational events in general where a high concentration of people is foreseeable. Strategic objectives that are essential for the normal functioning of citizen activity will also be controlled.

The device seeks to strengthen the security devices and the intelligence, control and anti-terrorist monitoring capabilities of the State Security Forces and Bodies, as well as other institutions and organizations.

During the period of application of the reinforcement measures, agents will increase preventive and surveillance measures and anti-terrorist response. In addition, random controls of vehicles and people are increased, in all those places where a high presence or traffic of people may take place, such as squares, promenades and large commercial streets.

Attention is also paid to leisure, sporting or religious events; emblematic buildings, centers or facilities with a large presence of visitors and, in general, all those places or buildings where special concentrations of citizens are expected to occur. These preventive devices are also intensified in large centers, infrastructures and transport interchanges in order to guarantee the safety of travelers.
