From "glutamate" to "Sheriff of Nottingham": the phrases of the debate on the motion of no confidence

The debate on the motion of censure, which began this morning in the Congress of Deputies, has left some notable phrases, some witty and surprising, such as Pedro Sánchez's qualification of "right-wing glutamate" when referring to Vox or the "Sheriff of Nottingham" that the president of the ultra-right group has snapped at the president of the Government.

In the initial part of the debate, Santiago Abascal, on behalf of Vox, the party that registered the motion, and President Pedro Sánchez have become embroiled over the model of the country that one and the other advocate and have launched cross reproaches. The head of the Executive has blamed Abascal for "hiding" behind Ramón Tamames, the candidate proposed by the far-right formation.

"After being the candidate in the first motion of censure and opening act in the second, in the third he could do like Feijóo and save himself from appearing here, since his forte is not work."

“The candidate is a decoy used by Mr. Abascal to hide and also hide his unspeakable project”.

“No one should be surprised that he hides behind a candidate of circumstances. It is what can be expected from a person who exalts military values, but shies away from serving in the military.”

“You haven't mentioned Ukraine, you haven't mentioned Putin. I'd like to know why you don't.” “They are the glutamate of the right. Extreme and radical flavor enhancer.""They lived with and leaned on corruption complacently during the worst moments of the financial crisis. It is grotesque that they cry out to heaven for a black chickpea when they have been splashing for years in the pot of corruption."

"You, Mr. Abascal, are the wild card that the PP needs to take us back to 2013."

“Despite their efforts, there will be no turning back in Spain. Neither the dictator is going to return to his mausoleum nor is Spanish society going to renounce what he has achieved in these last three years."

"You have prohibited us Spaniards from producing energy, you have even facilitated the blowing up of our energy sources while the Spaniards were cold. Only in children's stories when a cruel despot is portrayed are similar situations described."

"You disguise yourself as Robin Hood and in reality you are the Sheriff of Nottingham"

"Cruel robbery is to take advantage of inflation to increase taxes and collection and waste in political expenses, in positions in friends."

"(To the PP) Let's vote together today and understand each other tomorrow to offer a solid alternative of legislative wisdom, economic growth, institutional strength and respected sovereignty within Spain and abroad."

"My presence is an acceptance to be able to pay one of my last tributes for the future of our country."

"The second republic was a situation not as angelic as they currently try to show."

"Your government does not respect the division of powers. They are taking control of justice."
