In the first round of the municipal elections, which is symbolic, Esquerra Republicana came out in first position. The formation of Oriol Junqueras is the one that has presented the most lists in Catalonia for the elections on May 28 with 804 candidacies, his personal record. Trailing behind is Junts per Catalunya with 728 in its first local appointment with the polls.
Jordi Turull's party debuted in municipal elections after the founding of JxCat as a party in the summer of 2020 and in some municipalities it will compete with another force in the post-convergent space such as PDECat. Four years ago Junts per Catalunya was a coalition of independents who approached the formation of Carles Puigdemont after 1-O and the PDECat cadres. After the founding of a new political force almost three years ago, the electoral appointment will be key to taking root in the territory and strengthening the brand at the local level. The goal set a few months ago was to close 800 lists.
The PSC, for its part, has registered 615 candidacies, 89 more than in the previous contest, which was the one with the fewest candidates from the socialist ranks (526) together with that of 2015 (535). Gone are the more than 700 lists of 2007 (733) and 2011 (772).
The commoners, who play strong in Barcelona, present 174 candidacies, and the CUP remains at 163, 28 more than four years ago. In any case, with these candidacies the training is presented in municipalities where 5.6 million inhabitants reside. The most complicated thing is presenting lists in small towns, which are the majority.
PDECat had set itself the goal of exceeding 300 lists, but in recent weeks it had already reduced that figure considerably to 250 and will finally present 181.
On the other hand, in the broad and fragmented political spectrum that goes from the constitutionalist center-right to the extreme right, the candidacies range from a hundred Ciudadanos and a long hundred from Vox to more than 200 from the PP, passing through the 70 from Valents .
Although financial advances can be requested from this Tuesday to cover campaign expenses, it will not be until May 1 when the 28-M candidacies are definitively proclaimed, just when there are 4 weeks left for the appointment with the polls.
