Elvira Vázquez saved El Molino

Here at last is Elvira Vázquez's very personal account of her adventure to save a historical relic: El Molino. Always discreet, she had kept this detailed information to herself, but when she arrived at the time chosen by her and with her hands at work, the truth is that not a single hair was cut.

Elvira Vázquez, who suddenly appeared as the savior of the legendary cafe concert, had a past that allowed us to host good omens. And she explains it herself in the first part of her book:

El Molino, the Paral·lel brand (published by Almuzara). University preparation in various specialties, business vocation with successful results and a remarkable capacity for initiative. All this led her to deploy large-scale actions in very diverse fields.

So, he found El Molino at a time that seemed destined to disappear. After an aberrant stage starring the grandson of the historical owner, Doña Fernanda, and in the midst of the appearance of Russian shareholders, she entered into dispute. The first initiative of these outsiders had been limited to loading all the modernist interior decoration, designed by the outstanding architect Manuel Raspall. She got involved in it in such a way that in the end she managed to be the sole owner. God forbid.

It was easy to decide that demolition was necessary; the difficult vase to raise another reality and well faced to the future. Vanser decisively key during this period the engineer and architect Josep Bohigas (BOPBAA workshop).

Elvira Vázquez always considered that she had to save El Molino, but closely linked to an abandoned and dying Parallel. Her eagerness found the collaboration of the several mayors who paraded while she was in charge, except during the double mandate of Ada Colau: a failure that worsened the situation.

The most committed moment appeared after the inauguration of an attractive venue and the most technically well equipped. The kind of shows that the new public was asking for were not found. Neither during construction nor during commissioning did he ask for or receive a single public euro. He couldn't resist any longer and had to sell it to the City Council. It was a story that can only be told by a surrendered love. We will make sure that he does not join Talía, Arnau and a Barts in danger.
