Compromís and Esquerra Unida strengthen their collaboration in Valencia for the future

The former mayor of València Joan Ribó and the municipal spokesperson for Compromís in the City Council, Papi Robles, met on Tuesday afternoon with officials from the Esquerra Unida leadership in the city of València - among them its coordinator, Bernabé Aldeguer - to strengthen their good relationship and establish collaboration formulas. The two formations presented themselves separately to the regional and municipal elections, but they already joined together under the umbrella of Compromís-Sumar in the July general elections.

Sources familiar with the meeting explained to La Vanguardia that during it, the Valencian coalition offered to channel EU proposals in the plenary sessions, an option that the formation led by Aldeguer in the capital did not rule out, without this, he clarified, " exhaust the political action of the United States and hinder its autonomy.

It was a "working meeting", they explained from Compromís, with the idea of setting an "agenda" on issues where both groups share a diagnosis and possible proposals to solve them, they added in the US. Among other topics, the possible expansion of the port of Valencia came up, where the two parties have the same position. There was also talk of collaborating in the Municipal District Boards.

This meeting takes place after the possibility of representatives of Esquerra Unida joining the electoral list headed by Joan Ribó, was on the table for the May municipal elections. An agreement that was not closed because it seemed incompatible and politically incoherent with the coalition that Podem and the EU presented at the regional level.

The result was known to everyone, Unides Podem was once again left out of the City Council and Compromís lost the Mayor's Office. Now, with the purples in a situation of much less political weight, the reformulation of the space to the left of the PSPV is an option that is wide open.

In fact, the US points out that one of the intentions of the meeting was - "after the good experience of the general elections" where Compromís and the EU already campaigned together - "naturalize" these relations in the face of the alarm situation that, in their opinion , generates the first months of the mayor's administration, María José Catalá. "There is a need to consider social and political alliances" which, they admit, "are still to be made."

This first movement in Valencia city acquires special relevance in a political context where Sumar threatens a possible territorial implantation in Alicante; a possibility that has generated the frontal rejection of Compromís, which understands that Yolanda Díaz's people must comply with their agreement to "not compete electorally" with them.

In fact, an event is planned for this Saturday in Alicante by the Sumar deputy who led the candidacy in that province, Txema Guijarro, to thank those who supported the candidacy that has raised doubts in Compromís.
