Citizens ask the Board to refuse to debate the CUP motion on a referendum law

As if no time had passed, for Ciudadanos the Parliament of Catalonia will once again settle in 2023 in a situation similar to that of 2017, when the laws that led to the unilateral declaration of independence of Catalonia were processed in the midst of enormous political tension. .

Six years later, the plenary session of the Chamber will debate a proposed resolution from the CUP that proposes launching a drafting paper for a referendum law in which the door is left open to unilateralism, and that, according to Carlos Carriozosa, goes beyond again the limits of the Constitution, so the Board should not have admitted it for processing.

For the leader of Ciudadanos in Catalonia, the president of the Parliament, Anna Erra, from Junts, and the rest of the members of the Board, in which the PSC, ERC and the CUP are also represented, could incur in prevarication, therefore which has announced that it will urge the Constitutional Court to send a request if it detects criminal attitudes.

For the moment, no one has been warned, but, according to Carrizosa, although the Spanish courts are "very guaranteeing" in these matters, the deputies who sit in the governing body of the Chamber should know, from the ten previous rulings of the Constitutional Court, that with this CUP proposal the fundamental rights of parliamentarians are being "violated": "It is a never-ending story, sovereignty cannot be cut into pieces," he argued.

The CUP proposal, in any case, has already received amendments from ERC and Junts, which will have to decide whether to support it fully or partially at a time when the investiture pact of Pedro Sánchez is being finalized, which already has Republican support, among the socialists and the post-convergents.

In this context, Ciudadanos criticizes the role of the PSC, which it accuses of having "changed sides" and, after having been on the "side of the law" in 2017, now seeking to "whitewash" a "coup to the "democracy even more harmful" such as that which, in Carrizosa's opinion, means the amnesty of those prosecuted for the independence process.

However, the leader of Ciudadanos in Catalonia has been "absolutely" against the demonstrations called in front of the socialist headquarters. "In our 17 years of history we have never called anyone to protest in front of the match venues. It is not our style," Carrizosa concluded.

On the other hand, Carrizosa has called on citizens to join the events against the amnesty called in Barcelona for next weekend and in Madrid for the following weekend, as well as the rally against the "humiliation of the amnesty" promoted by unions. of the National Police and the Civil Guard next Friday in the Ciutat de la Justícia.
