Catalonia takes charge of the Guillem Agulló awards that the PP and Vox eliminated in Valencia

After the Valencian Courts decided, thanks to the majority of PP and Vox, to stop handing out the Guillem Agulló awards that they had been granting since 2016, it will be the Catalan Generalitat that will assume them. It was announced this afternoon by the Government spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, who has clarified that the initiative has the approval of the family of the young man who in 1993 was murdered by a group of Nazis.

“The Government of Catalonia has decided that it will assume the organization of the Guillem Agulló award, which has been banned in the Valencian Country and will do so until the Valencian institutions decide to recover it,” Plaja announced at the press conference after the Consell Executiu of this noon

The spokesperson for the Catalan Executive has disgraced the Government of the popular Carlos Mazón for withdrawing the award. Thus, she has criticized the right and the extreme right because “they seem to be bothered by anti-fascist demands.” An award, which in Plaja's words, is “a symbol against racism, xenophobia and crimes motivated by hate.”

“It is much more than an award, because for decades it has represented the anti-fascist struggle,” he added. The Generalitat of Catalonia assures that the objective of the subsequent ones is the same as until today. A jury will be formed made up of, among others, Guillem Agulló's own parents, the former president of the Valencian Court, Enric Morera, and the journalist, activist and former CUP deputy, David Fernàndez. The prize rules will be announced soon, as well as the complete configuration of the jury.
