An arrestee in the Tupac Shakur case

The police in Las Vegas (Nevada) this Friday made an arrest that would in principle close one of the most fascinating mysteries of urban culture.

Officers have arrested a man in connection with the 1996 death of rapper Tupac Shakur on the Sin Capital's notorious Strip, a case that has haunted investigators, become the subject of literature and fascinated the public for almost three decades. Duanne Keffe D Davis, ex-leader of a gang, was taken into police custody, charged with murder.

Suspicions about Davis arose some time ago. He himself admitted in interviews and in his memoir Compton Street Legend (2019) that on September 6 he was in the Cadillac from which the bullets came out in the BMX shooting involving Shakur, who was 25 years old.

There were three other people in the Cadillac, but they have died. The prosecutor explained that even if Davis says he didn't pull the trigger, that doesn't exonerate him. He planned it. Last July 17, the police searched the home of the detainee's partner. Documents from that operation specified that investigators searched for and found evidence related to Shakur's death.

In his book, Davis wrote that in 2010 he broke his silence about the death of the rapper, who had been in a Mike Tyson boxing match, in a meeting with authorities. At the age of 46, he was facing a possible permanent prison sentence for drug trafficking. "They said they would withdraw the accusation", he said. He assured that he was one of the last living witnesses. Now it was the last of the Cadillac.

Shakur survived a shooting in 1994. There was a confrontation between West Coast rappers, led by him, and East Coast rappers, with Notorius B.I.G.

Within a few months of Shakur's death, Notorius B.I.G. fell, a so far unsolved crime.
