Albares accuses Feijóo of creating "hoaxes" and sees him as "incapable" to govern

José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, has accused Alberto Núñez Feijóo of creating "a hoax" after the popular leader yesterday questioned Pedro Sánchez's position regarding Iran's attack on Israel.

At an event in the Basque Country, Feijóo dropped yesterday that in the position of the Spanish Government "there has been room for hesitation", and blamed Sánchez for being "the last" to condemn Iran's attack.

In response to these statements, the Foreign Minister responded this morning in an interview on TVE's La Hora, accusing the PP leader of creating "hoaxes", after stating that "the French president or the Italian prime minister" spoke later than Sánchez. . Furthermore, he has assured that "if he believes that foreign policy is made at the speed of a tweet, he demonstrates that he is still absolutely unfit to be president of Spain."

Albares has criticized "the silence" of the Popular Party in the face of the proposals that the ministry has offered in the commissions. "They are the last opposition party in all of Europe that stands alongside the Government in foreign policy," he added.

The Foreign Minister has also made a "call for peace" in Gaza, ensuring that the way to achieve it is with the recognition of a Palestinian state. In this sense, Albares has defended that he will support "the entry of Palestine as a state in the UN" during the debate that will be held next Thursday.

"This is the last time that the world has to be subjected to this maximum tension, and that involves the recognition of a Palestinian state," he added.

Furthermore, Albares has condemned Iran's attack on Israel and has acknowledged that "it was known that the attack was imminent." "Right now the last thing the Middle East, including the people of Israel, needs is an escalation," he concluded.

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister has also celebrated the imminent agreement between the Government of Spain and the United Kingdom for Gibraltar, although he did not want to go into details "to protect the agreement." "They will deal with aspects of the airport, mobility and the circulation of goods," he added.
