Minister Giró signs the order for the preparation of the Catalan accounts for 2023

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Jaume Giró, has signed this Wednesday the order for the elaboration of the budgets of the Generalitat for 2023. The also leader of Junts per Catalunya has assured from the Parliament that he intends to seek the support of all the groups of the Chamber (except Vox) in a scenario of uncertainty due to the economic situation.

As detailed by the minister, given the current inflation, which is around 8%, an extension of the 2022 accounts would be "insufficient", and has revealed that every month the departments of the Catalan Executive must ask for extra money to pay consumption bills energy for two months.

To go into detail about the amount, the Government is awaiting the advances that they receive from the State, which will be decided in July at the meeting of the fiscal and financial policy council, as well as the definitive deficit target. Today it is 0.6%, but the Executive of Pere Aragonès hopes that it will finally be 1%, especially considering that there are no covid funds or extraordinary funds for next year, some key items in the recent years marked by the economic crisis of the covid pandemic, which is now aggravated by the war in Ukraine.

Giró has been the first minister in the last ten years who has approved the budgets in a timely manner, those of the current year, which went ahead thanks to the En Comú Podem group after discreet contacts with the anti-capitalists for weeks ran aground.

On January 1 of this year the accounts were already in force and the minister has set himself the same goal for the next year. However, this time Giró will have one more difficulty when negotiating, since next year there are municipal elections and that can complicate the political scene when it comes to agreeing.
