Train circulation restored on the Madrid-València AVE after 22 hours of breakdown

Almost 24 hours after the circulation of trains on the high-speed lines that link Madrid with Valencia and Alicante was suspended due to an incident in the railway infrastructure, Adif has announced the restoration of the service early this morning. Saturday. Thousands of passengers from the different operators that provide service on this line: Iryo, Ouigo, AVLO and AVE were affected in the middle of the Pilar bridge.

Yesterday morning, as reported by Adif, at 8:20 a.m., an incident at the facilities in Monteagudo de las Salinas (Cuenca) and, from 8:47 a.m., a lack of tension in the catenary between this municipality and Bifurcación Albacete forced traffic to circulate. single track on this route.

As a result of this lack of tension, a train operated by the operator Ouigo (of the French SNCF) was stopped on the route. Furthermore, from 11:56 a.m. an incident affecting the electrification system (pantograph/catenary) caused the stoppage of a high-speed train, which interrupted circulation on both tracks on the Monteagudo-Bifurcación Albacete section. The causes of the incident are being investigated, according to Adif.

Renfe reported in the afternoon that, for its trains stopped along the way, a bus shuttle service was established between Albacete and Cuenca. In addition, the public operator enabled empty material from Fuencarral to rescue travelers from the Ouigo train stopped along the way. Likewise, it reinforced information and customer service personnel at the affected stations.

Customers affected by the suspension of circulation tested their “patience” after having remained up to “three or four hours standing” inside the carriages while they waited for “solutions.” One of the passengers who was traveling aboard the Ouigo company train that had left Valencia at 7:30 a.m. bound for Madrid, Luis Crespo, reported that the travelers had been “a couple of hours” with the train stopped on the track, about 35 kilometers from Cuenca, until they finally opened the convoy doors and allowed them to get off. They were transported by buses to Cuenca.

After prolonging the repair work throughout the night, the railway company considered the incident "solved" around 6 a.m. this Saturday, as reported in its X profile.
