The ski resorts of the Aragonese Pyrenees will open this weekend

After the fiasco of not being able to open during the Constitution long weekend due to the lack of snow, the four ski resorts in the Aragonese Pyrenees will finally open their doors this weekend thanks to the snowfall that has fallen in the last few hours, which has left thicknesses of up to 40 centimeters on the slopes.

The Aramón snow group, half-owned by Ibercaja and the Government of Aragon, announced this Thursday that its centers in Cerler (in Benasque) and Formigal-Panticosa (in the Tena valley) will kick off the season this Saturday .

The copious snowfall in recent hours has left up to 40 cm of snow on the slopes of Formigal-Panticosa and 20 cm in Cerler. These rainfalls, “along with the previous work that has been underway for several weeks,” have been key to being able to confirm the opening, Aragón says in a note.

"Thus, with the launch of the seasons, the valleys begin to prepare the arrival of visitors who choose to enjoy their days of skiing and leisure during such important dates as Christmas," they add in their statement.

The Cerler station will open the Ampriú sector, offering through this access all the services necessary to practice skiing and enjoy some new features such as the renovated Colladeta terrace.

For its part, Formigal-Panticosa begins the season with practically all of its valleys connected, from Portalet to Sextas, and the station is working to open the Panticosa sector in the coming days.

The opening of both is added to that of the Valdelinares Teruel station during the long weekend, so that the Aramón group already has three of its four winter centers operational (it is missing the Javalambre Teruel station as well).

“Both the resorts in the Pyrenees and those in Teruel continue with the work to adapt the slopes with the aim of expanding the offer of skiable kilometers as conditions allow,” they add.

For its part, the 100K domain, formed by the two stations in the Aragón valley, Astún and Candanchú, are also prepared to start rolling this Saturday. That day, skiers will be able to enjoy 41 open slopes and 35 skiable kilometers, 34% of the total.

The announcement is already being felt in the rate of reservations for accommodation in the area and is good news for businesses in the area, whose economy depends largely on the income generated at this time.
