The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintains the alert for strong winds for this Thursday in the Community of Madrid, which could reach 100 kilometers per hour in areas of the mountains.
The Aemet reports that for that area the orange level has been activated due to winds of 100 km/h, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, Thursday.
The same alert level, for wind that could reach 90 km/h, has been activated at the same times, in the South, Vegas and West areas of Madrid.
From 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. the yellow alert has been activated in the Metropolitan area and Henares.
112 recommends drivers reduce speed when overtaking heavy vehicles and when entering and exiting tunnels to avoid possible lurches.
In homes, it is advisable to remove objects that may fall onto public roads from balconies and terraces.
Pedestrians are also urged not to walk under objects that may fall onto public roads, avoid places where there are branches or trees in poor condition, and not take shelter from the wind behind walls with little consistency or risk of falling. In case of emergency you should call 112.
The Madrid City Council has kept the red alert of the action protocol for adverse weather active since midnight due to the forecast of strong gusts of wind. This means that the parks are closed to avoid accidents.
El Retiro and eight other parks in the city - El Capricho, the Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste, Juan Carlos I, Juan Pablo II, Quinta de Fuente del Berro, Quinta de los Molinos, Quinta Torre Arias and the Lineal del Manzanares park - will remain closed while the alert remains active.
