“Knowing each other is a great tool to advance the early detection of cancer”

Through its brands, Dermofarm offers service to its doctors, who are the heart of each specialty. “To put ourselves in perspective, we are at the service of the gynecologist with Cumlaude Lab, the dermatologist and aesthetic doctor with Sensilis Sensitive Skin Lab, and the clinical dermatologist with Rilastil,” details Jennifer Verhelle, Brand Director, with whom we spoke today.

It is true that advances in the diagnosis and treatments of this disease have evolved and, thanks to this, survival rates have significantly increased.

However, oncological treatments directly and indirectly have short and long-term consequences on the skin and mucous membranes. For example, early menopause induced in some treatments is accompanied by both physical and emotional changes that have negative consequences on the patient's quality of life and general health. Or another example; In patients treated with chemotherapy, one of the most common side effects would be dry mucous membranes, which affects the ocular, oral and, logically, vaginal mucosa. This clearly has consequences on a woman's life and her sexual health.

That is why our brands offer products so that the doctor can improve these consequences and the additional symptoms produced by the treatments. And, in this way, contribute to the well-being of the person being treated.

At Cumlaude Lab we work to reduce these symptoms and improve the quality of genital, sexual and vasomotor life with a variety of lubricants, external and internal moisturizers, and specific intimate hygiene products that provide greater emollience and nutritional supplements. Both gynecologists and other health professionals trust in the safety and effectiveness of our products, because we are a brand committed to science. The areas that define us are scientific honesty and innovation to be able to treat all the needs of women during all stages of their lives.

According to data from GEICAM, a leading breast cancer research group in Spain, every 15 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in our country. A prevalence that is increasing more and more and that today is estimated to affect 1 in 8 women. So periodic and rigorous visits to the gynecologist will be our first prevention tool. The second will be to know each other, look at each other and touch each other in order to detect any anomaly and discuss it with our doctor. Warning signs and symptoms vary from person to person, but some warning signs could include: detecting lumps or depressions in the breast or armpit, irritation in the nipple or breast area, sinking or discharge from the nipple, or pain or changes in shape of both the nipple and the breast. That is why it is important to look at ourselves and know ourselves, in order to detect changes and communicate them to our doctor.

As a brand, we have several initiatives and projects for both research and patient support. On the one hand, we have been collaborating with the GEICAM foundation for several years, for example, with the research project “Breast cancer and the desire to be a mother”, the first patient registry study that links pregnancy and breast cancer and It consolidates the necessary information so that oncologists can adequately advise patients when they express the desire to become mothers, also about the possible consequences of the treatments on the development of the baby.

On the other hand, as the doctor is the first point of diagnosis and support to fight the disease, but the healthcare pharmacy is the most important health point to accompany the patient in their daily life, every year we carry out awareness campaigns in pharmacies where we train the teams so that they can inform the patient about the side effects of the treatments and how to improve the conditions of their skin and mucous membranes. We also participate in studies that improve the quality of life of cancer patients and the symptoms associated with treatments; and we have collaborated with the GSK laboratory and the Association of People Affected by Ovarian Cancer (ASACO) in a campaign to raise awareness about gynecological cancers.

At Cumlaude Lab we have two very important commitments, both to the gynecologist and to the patient: to offer effective and safe products, but also that they are sensorially and organoleptically pleasant. Unfortunately, cancer cases increase every year, and with them the complexity of treatment, which is increasingly personalized based on the characteristics and needs of each patient. At Cumlaude Lab, our mission is to be able to accompany the gynecologist during this constant evolution in order to safeguard the well-being of the patients.
