The 23-year-old woman who lost her life yesterday after a tree fell on her when she was crossing a pedestrian crossing on Almagro Street with the Alonso Martínez roundabout is the fifth fatality due to events of this type in the city of Madrid since the year 2014.
The chronology of these events is as follows:
- June 21, 2014.- A 38-year-old man died from crushing when a branch weighing several hundred kilos fell from an acacia tree in Retiro. The deceased was in the park with his two young children.
- September 8, 2014.- A 72-year-old man dies, hit by a branch of an elm that fell while walking along Virgen de las Viñas Street, in the Santa Eugenia neighborhood of the Villa de Vallecas district.
- July 12, 2016.- A 58-year-old man dies after a tree branch falls on him while he was sitting on a bench in a garden area on Camino de Vinateros street.
- March 24, 2018.- A 4-year-old boy died when a tree fell on him in Retiro Park when the complex was being evacuated due to the strong wind.
