PLUMSTED -- Police asked for information from the public after an "explosive device" was discovered in a mailbox in Plumsted Saturday, the department said in a statement.

Township officers were initially dispatched for a report of a pipe bomb in the mailbox, according to police. Officials with the State Police bomb squad made the device safe and discovered it had partially detonated.

Police could not be reached Saturday night to provide more information, including details about the device or any possible damage. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

In a Facebook message posted around 12:20 p.m., police asked the public to avoid Brookwood Drive due to an ongoing investigation.

"All units have cleared and there is no danger to the public," another social media post from the department added.

The police statement asked anyone with information about the incident to call 609-758-7185.
