A 39-year-old civil guard who was off duty this Sunday rescued three children who were drowning on a beach in Grao de Castellón after being swept away by the current.

As reported by the provincial command, the agent was transferred to the hospital because, after the triple rescue, he was exhausted, although his evolution is favourable.

The events occurred on Sunday afternoon due to strong winds and intense waves, and at that time the yellow flag was waving on the beach.

An agent assigned to the main post of the Civil Guard in Burriana (Castellón) who was in the area with his family saw three children who could not get out of the water and who were being dragged by the current.

"The children were very tired and scared but the agent, despite the fact that the rescue work was very difficult due to the state of the sea, managed to give them words of calm as he took them to the area of ​​the rocks and tried to extract them from there", they explain from the command.

Between the civil guard and two other people who also jumped into the water to help, they were able to get the children out and bring them to safety, but the agent was exhausted from the effort made and the large amount of water ingested, so he was no longer there was strength left to get out of the water by his own means and he had to be helped by a lifeguard who took him on her jet ski to the coast.

Once out of the water, the civil guard had respiratory problems, for which he had to be treated by the medical services and transferred to the General Hospital of Castellón, where he remains hospitalized although his life is not in danger.
