A Chinese tourist died this Friday after suffering a fall in a canyon in the Andes of Ecuador located at the foot of the Chimborazo volcano, the highest mountain in the country, as reported in a statement by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.
The tourist slipped and fell into the La Chorrera canyon, located 200 meters from the limit of the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve, after having taken a tour of the protected area's cycling route.
The park rangers of the protected natural area coordinated rescue actions with the National Police and other institutions to recover the woman's body.
The Chimborazo volcano reaches 6,263 meters above sea level and its summit is considered the furthest point in the world from the center of the Earth (6,384 kilometers), a product of the flattening that characterizes the planet.
