The “vi novell” is celebrating

The new wine festival is back in the gardens of the Palau Robert in Barcelona. In this meeting, which will be held tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., you will be able to taste the new wine from eight Catalan wineries: Carles Andreu, Vinícola de Sarral, Vins Petxina, Celler Cooperatiu d'Espolla, Masroig, Ronadelles, Maset and Sant Josep Wines. Majorcan producers Jaume de Puntiró and 7103 Petit Celler will also be invited, whose proposals can be accompanied with artisanal cheeses from Betara and Sant Gil d'Albió houses.

The operation will be as follows: access to the event is free and tickets for the tastings will cost €1.50. If you want to buy eight tastings at once, the price will be €10. Activities will also be organized such as theatrical performances or a question and answer game about this wine, which is the first to go on sale after the harvest.

This is the second time that this celebration is organized on the eve of the Christmas holidays, a change of date that, the organizers explain, “wants to vindicate the entire novell wine season”, which starts on November 11, for the Festival of San Martín, and ends in February. In the last edition, more than 4,000 tastings were held and there was an influx of public throughout the day.

The novell is earlier than the wines known as young. It is made and bottled quickly and consumed without having rested. This gives it a freshness and very special characteristics that make it an ideal option to accompany all types of dishes, especially those made with seasonal products.

In 2023, when nearly 67,000 bottles have been sold (34% less than last year due to the drought), the Agrupació de Cellers Catalans Elaboradors de Vi Novell has created a new badge to identify these wines and guarantee that they comply with certain quality criteria.
