A trauma is the emotional response that a person experiences after being exposed to a terrible and traumatic event, whether physical or mental, so there are different types. Although the process may be more or less complex, depending on each person and the particular experience, the survivor of a trauma will begin a path towards overcoming such an event. However, it may be the case that the symptoms associated with the trauma prevail and do not disappear or are relieved. In these situations, the so-called post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may develop. An indicator that the trauma has not been overcome and has become a mental disorder.

Among the types of traumas that exist are acute ones, when they have to do with a particular traumatic event; chronic ones, due to repeated and prolonged exposure; or complexes, which are made up of several terrible events.
