Food alert for plastic fragments in these candies sold in Spain

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has been informed through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF) about an alert notification issued by the Finnish health authorities. The reason for the alert is the detection of plastic fragments in the Cup Cake Candy product, marketed under the Funny Candy brand.

The affected product, identified with the following details on its label, has initially been distributed in several autonomous communities in Spain: Andalusia, Asturias, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Castilla y León, Castilla - La Mancha, Basque Country, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid , Melilla, Murcia and the Valencian Community. However, it cannot be ruled out that there have been redistributions to other regions.

In view of this situation, the competent authorities of the affected autonomous communities have been notified through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI), in order to proceed with the immediate withdrawal of the product from marketing channels.

For food safety reasons, a call is made to the population so that if they have a product at home that matches the aforementioned data, they refrain from consuming it and proceed to its proper disposal. It is essential to follow the indications of the health authorities to prevent possible health risks.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition will continue to monitor the situation and provide relevant updates as there are new developments in the case. Consumer safety is paramount, and it is important to be attentive to the alerts and recommendations of the authorities to guarantee the protection of public health.
