Finca Río Negro, 25 years bottling the vast viticultural tradition of Guadalajara

The Finca Río Negro winery, located in Cogolludo, Guadalajara, is a project born from the passion for wine and the desire to return to the origins of its founder, Jose Manuel Fuentes.

Originally from Cisneros, Palencia, Fuentes decided to plant his first vineyard in 1998 on land that was previously only dedicated to cereal and sheep farming. Over time, the initial plot of 0.6 hectares has expanded to the current 42 hectares.

Finca Río Negro's philosophy is to achieve the best possible wine from this unique land, respecting its natural expression during the production process. Its first vintage, Finca Río Negro 2007, was released in January 2010 and obtained a score of 92 points in the prestigious Peñín Guide. Since then, the winery has been completing its range of wines, which are marketed in more than 20 countries.

One of the fundamental aspects for choosing Cogolludo as the location for the winery was the historical relationship between this town and wine. From the Middle Ages to the 1960s, wine was the region's economic engine, as evidenced by numerous historical documents that testify to purchases, inheritances, and donations from the Dukes of Medinaceli to different relatives or servants. In addition, the Cogolludo Palace was praised for the beauty of its facilities and the quality of its wines during the first trip that Felipe el Hermoso made to see Spain.

Cogolludo's vast winemaking tradition is a fundamental pillar of the Finca Río Negro winery, and a new grape variety has recently been discovered in an old vineyard in the region. This genetic discovery does not correspond to any other variety known in the world and has become the latest exponent of the long history of wine in Cogolludo.

The Finca Río Negro winery is aware of the importance of having a long-term vision to maintain its family character and continue to improve in every detail and with each new vintage. His goal is to achieve a unique and exceptional wine that represents the best of the region and that can be enjoyed all over the world.

Finca Río Negro 2016, the soul of its winery

Finca Río Negro is an exciting project that combines the region's winemaking tradition with the vision of its founder, Jose Manuel Fuentes, for the future.

The winery has become an international benchmark thanks to the quality of its wines and the respect it has for the natural expression of the terroir.

A great example of this is the Finca Río Negro 2016 wine.

If you are a wine aficionado looking for new experiences, you will love trying this unique wine. The grapes used for its production grow at an impressive altitude of 1,000 meters in the town of Cogolludo.

This wine is created from four grape varieties: Tempranillo, which makes up the base of the wine, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

It is a clean and bright wine, cherry red with violet rims, with a high intensity of color. On the nose, it shows an intense, deep and complex aroma with a predominance of blackberry-type fruits, well linked with the notes of the different types of oak. Memories of minerals and balsamic. On the palate it is powerful as well as elegant, full-bodied, fresh, and very persistent.

Ideal for starters, rice dishes, roasts, stews, red and white meats.

This wine is one of those that is part of the La Vanguardia Gourmet Red Triangle Selection together with Muro Crianza 2018 and Finca Sobreño Crianza 2019.
