Benefits of giving eggs to dogs

Dog feeding is a matter of great importance. Choosing a quality diet that provides the necessary nutrients for your health is one of the priorities of those who have a four-legged best friend. But in this area it is common for doubts to arise about what a dog can and cannot eat.

We know that substances such as sugar and chocolate are toxic to dogs. But others generate more confusion, as is the case with eggs. Before daring to offer them a bite of any food that is not specifically designed for them – such as feed – you must know for sure whether or not it is suitable for your pet, as well as the proper way to give it to them.

Dogs can eat eggs. It is, in fact, a food that brings interesting benefits for your health, as well as for the appearance of your fur. We must not forget that dogs are carnivorous animals and need a large supply of protein of animal origin, among which is the chicken egg.

It is especially interesting for puppies in full development, as well as for dogs with a high level of physical activity. In any case, in some cases it is not recommended, such as for dogs with gastrointestinal problems, overweight or with allergies and food intolerances. When in doubt, you always have to go to the vet to give us the go-ahead depending on the needs of our four-legged best friend.

Dogs can eat raw egg, which is one of the mainstays of the popular BARF diet. However, the raw white contains a protein called avidin that prevents the absorption of some nutrients. Also, we run the risk of contracting salmonella. Although for the avidin to produce nutritional deficiencies they would have to consume a large amount of raw egg.

However, many opt for offering them the cooked egg, as this rules out the risk of salmonella, but maintains all its nutritional properties. We can give it to you cooked, grilled or in a French omelette. But it is essential to use the minimum amount of oil possible in cooking – that is why the fried egg is ruled out – and we cannot add salt or spices either.

The recommended amount is one or two eggs per week, as a complement to your dog's balanced diet. It should be noted that the eggshell also contains beneficial properties, but we must wash and crush it very well.
