A Spaniard in Ireland responds to a friend about the difference in the price of olive oil and leaves everyone speechless

The escalation of olive oil prices does not let up in Spain. According to data from the INE, the price of olive oil has increased in the last year by 38.8%, although in the case of extra virgin, the highest quality, the increase exceeds 227%. This week, a liter of extra virgin is sold for ten euros, an unthinkable value for one of the kitchen staples.

Spaniards, residents or not, closely follow this increase. This is the case of a young Andalusian who currently lives in Ireland. Talking to a friend, he assured that salaries are higher there, "but food prices are too." And he has verified with this that this is not the case with olive oil at the moment.

As he explains in his TikTok account, he asked his mother to go to a supermarket to check the price of extra virgin olive oil. In Huelva, she was 8.50 euros. "At the price of gold," added the woman.

He also went to a supermarket, but from Dublin. "As of August 27, virgin olive oil is 4.70 euros per liter," he explains to his followers. And he adds that there the minimum salary is 1,800 euros.

However, he clarifies that, despite the fact that labor salaries are higher, Ireland "is not a cheaper country than Spain": "If they tell you that, they are deceiving you. Although it is true that in terms of supermarkets there is not that much difference , some things are even cheaper here."
