A hotel denies accommodation to a blind man for bringing his guide dog: "Animals are not allowed here"

In an unfortunate episode of discrimination, a hotel in Val di Fassa, in the Italian town of Moena in the heart of the Alps, refused accommodation to a blind woman because she was accompanied by her guide dog. The situation, denounced by the "Vorreiprendireiltreno" association, exposes the violation of the rights of people with disabilities in the hotel sector.

The woman, whose name has not been revealed, had intended to enjoy a holiday in Trentino, but her plan was cut short when the hotel in question refused to allow access to her guide dog, arguing that its regulations did not allow animals. of any kind on the premises.

The situation gained notoriety when the association "Vorreiprendireiltreno" intervened in the case, highlighting the injustice suffered by the woman. The organization, which works to eliminate architectural and social barriers for people with disabilities, urged the hotel to respect legislation that guarantees guide dogs access to all public and private spaces.

After the association's intervention, the hotel rectified its decision and apologized to the affected woman. Gianni Battaiola, president of Asat, the association that brings together Trentino hoteliers, regretted what happened and explained that the recently appointed director of the establishment was not aware of some specific regulations.

The hotel's quick correction and official apology reflect an attempt to right the wrong committed and restore confidence in the area as an inclusive tourist destination. "Trentino remains an inclusive land, we are glad that the matter has come to light to continue stimulating attention to these issues, which in our territory are never overshadowed," the hotel apologized.
