This will be the request for the hand of José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Teresa Urquijo

José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the current mayor of Madrid, has decided to seal his commitment to Teresa Urquijo, an aristocrat and distant cousin of King Felipe VI. The official proposal, which precedes the marriage scheduled for April 6, will take place in Los Molinillos, the farm owned by Martínez-Almeida's paternal grandmother, Carmen Fernández de Araoz, known as Piru Urquijo, located 50 kilometers from Madrid, as reported by La Razón.

The mayor, a self-confessed traditional man, followed protocol and obtained Teresa's "yes, I do" in private on January 5. Now, this Saturday, both will celebrate the official marriage proposal, a family and discreet meeting, in which the participation of the respective families of the future couple is expected. The City Council confirmed to the aforementioned header that it will be an intimate event, complying with the customs established in these situations.

The Los Molinillos farm, the scene of the request, is a place that has already witnessed important family events, as noted by that same medium. In 2019 Jaime Urquijo Zobel de Ayala and Alexandra Suárez celebrated their wedding there.

The exchange of gifts is a tradition in these ceremonies, and the mayor of Madrid is expected to offer Teresa an engagement ring, while the groom's family will give her another piece of jewelry. The bride, in turn, usually reciprocates with a gift for the groom, commonly a watch. These details, although small, symbolize the union of the two families before the big day.

Teresita, as the bride is affectionately known in the family, monopolizes the attention, keeping one of the most anticipated elements a secret: her wedding dress. The question of whether she will follow the family tradition in choosing clothing adds a touch of mystery to the event.

Martínez-Almeida will be the first mayor of Madrid to marry while in office. The family event of the formal proposal marks the beginning of a series of celebrations that will culminate in a wedding on April 6, which promises to be one of the most notable events of spring in the Spanish capital.
