The symbolic power of Shakira's costumes at the National Court

Wearing the right color at an important moment can make you feel stronger and even say things about yourself. Color psychology has a great impact on the brain and knowing how to use it to our advantage is a very powerful tool. And Shakira, to attend the Barcelona Court, chose a style with a great emotional effect.

Dressed from head to toe in a pastel pink suit, the artist wanted to defend her position of innocence also with her style in the face of the accusation of having defrauded the Treasury of 14.5 million euros. The color pink, for example, is attributed a calming effect, associated with the feminine, love and sweetness.

Pink is very present in nature, usually in the form of a flower. It is a color that is closely linked to the time of childhood, which is why it is related to kindness. Among the different shades that exist, Shakira opted for a pale pink, a soft, sweet, calming and relaxing color – unlike the brighter ones, which can even cause irritation.

The Colombian artist chose this color to create a total look consisting of a jacket, high-cut straight pants and a cotton t-shirt of the same tone. She combined it with platform heeled sandals, a Jacquemus brand bag and matching sunglasses.

The choice of suit was not accidental either. This clothing has been closely associated with the male figure and power and, in the eighties, women had to dress in suits and with large shoulder pads to show that they could be a boss. Today the female suit is a common wardrobe for women but it continues to be a strong and key tool to express an egalitarian discourse between men and women.
